The Philippines have many forms of dugout along their extremely long coastline, and many different rigs.
Very little is known about this boat, but it would seem, from the central position of the mast step, that there should be an outrigger on both sides of the boat, although at the time of its discovery, it had only one. The craft would have been paddled or sailed and used for fishing, travel and general duties.
This boat, found adrift in Manilla Bay shortly after the 2nd World War, was retrieved and brought back to England by Commander Roberts, Royal Navy, of Newton Ferrers, who used it for several years as a family boat.
