This wonderful little canoe is one of a range of ultra-lightweight canoes and boats designed by Platt Montfort of Westport, Maine in the USA in 1983 and which was supplied in kit form.
The canoe is constructed using a lightweight wooden frame reinforced with Kevlar and covered with a tough heat-shrink Dacron aircraft fabric. The finished weight of the canoe is an amazing 14lbs, is a lot stronger and more durable than it looks and is most suitable for average use on rivers.
If the covering becomes damaged then repairs are quite simple. By using the repair kit which is supplied with each canoe, the craft is back in the water in around five minutes.
This particular canoe was donated to ISCA in 1999 by Dr Michael Herbert of Leatherhead in Surrey.
