Description

The only significant difference between this and proas of up to 80 feet long is that this one's keel does not have the slight curve in it that all Kiribati proas larger than this one have. The curve is to counter the drag caused by the outrigger. In a boat as small as this it would make little difference.

In Kiribati (pronounced Kiribuss, being a derivation of 'Gilberts') all their boats are of similar design and construction and a great deal of folk-lore surrounds their building - the boat builder being probably the most important artisan in the community.
